A Bittersweet Departure: My Review of "Legion" (Dark in You #11)
It feels surreal to be wrapping up my thoughts on "Legion," the eleventh and final book in Suzanne Wright’s Dark in You series—a journey I embarked on eight years ago. When I first picked up this series, I was swept away by a world of strong, eccentric heroines and dangerously lovable heroes. As I hit play on the audiobook, I realized just how invested I’ve become in this immersive universe.
"Legion" introduces us to Naomi, a captivating new character whose secrets weave a complex tapestry that draws you in. Right from the start, I felt like she was an old friend; her backstory and strength resonate deeply, showcasing Suzanne’s knack for crafting formidable female protagonists. Naomi’s relationships, especially with her family and friends, bring a warmth that balances the darker elements of the plot.
Luka, a Legion with three inner demons—Dagon, Abraxas, and Belial—was another highlight for me. His role as both a crime syndicate boss and Ella’s anchor creates a fascinating dynamic, and I found myself eager to learn more about his underworld dealings, which felt a bit underexplored. The chemistry between Naomi and Luka is electric, and their journey from acquaintance to protectors felt genuine and layered. Their interactions crackled with humor, trust, and undeniable passion, making their connection one of the series’ most memorable.
However, as I drifted through the rich soundscape narrated by Cat Doucette, I couldn’t shake a sense of yearning for a more profound conclusion. The action-packed plot was intricately woven, but I felt that the world-building and depth of the narrative didn’t quite meet the high bar set by previous installments. This left me yearning for a more robust send-off for both Naomi and Luka, as well as for the beloved characters who graced earlier pages.
Despite this, the adventure and the unforgettable characters make "Legion" a compelling read. I cherished the appearances of beloved characters from past books and still hold on to hope for Asher’s story in the future. There were so many moments that made me laugh, swoon, and even tear up—a blend of feels that Suzanne Wright has mastered over the years.
To fellow readers who have journeyed through the Dark in You series, “Legion” offers a satisfying taste of what we’ve come to love. Newcomers can dive into this book as a standalone, but I would highly recommend starting from the beginning to fully appreciate the intricate relationships and history at play.
In the end, while my heart feels heavy at saying goodbye to this beautifully chaotic world, I’m grateful for the incredible ride. If you love paranormal romance filled with complex characters, sizzling chemistry, and a dash of danger, you’ll want to give "Legion" a read. This series has carved out a special place in my heart, and I’m not ready to let it go just yet.
