Review of Suns Will Rise (System Divine, #3) by Jessica Khoury and A.G. Howard

From the moment I cracked open Suns Will Rise, the gripping conclusion to the System Divine series by Jessica Khoury and A.G. Howard, I felt an unmistakable pull that reminded me why I adore immersive storytelling. With its vibrant world and relatable characters, this book proved to be a stunning finale that left me breathless—and incredibly emotional.

As I turned each page, I was struck by the depth of character development. Each character brings something unique to the table, and it’s genuinely hard to pick a favorite! Chatine, our fierce protagonist, has evolved so much since the first book. In this installment, she radiates confidence, shedding her past self to emerge as a true badass. I found myself cheering her on as she firmly declares her place in the narrative, demonstrating how far she’s come. Marcellous’s raw vulnerability in the library scene had me sobbing—his growth away from his previous fixation showcases the complexities of relationships and personal journeys.

Then there’s Alouette, who surprisingly crept up on me. I had never quite liked her before, but her transformation during the coronation scene earned my respect. She commands the stage with a newfound strength that makes her multifaceted—no small feat in a cast bursting with compelling characters. Speaking of compelling, my heart ached for Etienne, the side character who steals the show. He reminded me of my beloved Thorne from The Lunar Chronicles—funny, lovesick, and in desperate need of more page time. Honestly, I wished for a different ending for him, which only shows how well the authors crafted his character.

Cerise, our introverted queen and world’s coolest hacker, displayed a magnetic presence that had me rooting for her every step of the way. The sheer power she exudes, especially during a pivotal scene before coronation day, pulled at my heartstrings. Max, with her complex layers, flipped the ‘rough exterior’ trope on its head, leaving me intrigued by her multifaceted personality. And Roche? Well, he’s nothing short of a delight—what’s not to love about a slay-worthy sibling?

The pacing of the plot was nothing short of masterful; it flowed with the rhythm of a well-conducted symphony, blending tension with poignant moments seamlessly. Just when I thought I understood where the story was heading, BAM—a twist that knocked the wind out of me! The authors left me gasping—there was so much heart in this narrative. The intricate details of the world felt alive; I could almost breathe in the atmosphere of Laterre. And let’s not forget the breathtaking cover, which captures the essence of this epic saga.

As I reflect on my journey through Suns Will Rise, I can’t help but feel that this is a book for anyone who craves rich character arcs, high-stakes drama, and emotional depth. It’s not only a satisfying conclusion to the series but a reminder of the power of growth, love, and resilience.

For those who appreciate stories that leave a mark, and characters who breathe life into their pages, I wholeheartedly recommend diving into this beautifully crafted world. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it—because trust me, this book will stick with you long after the last page is turned!
